Disability Day of Mourning

Anti-Filicide Day

Location

The Commons : 004

Date & Time

February 26, 2025, 3:00 pm4:00 pm

Description

Join us to remember and mourn the disabled lives we've lost. Filicide is when a parent or caregiver murders a child or relative. We will hold space in the Women’s, Gender, & Equity Center if anyone needs a quiet place to reflect.  We will discuss what filicide is, and honor those who have passed from 3pm-4pm.

March 1st is a day where the disabled community remembers those who have been victims of filicide. This begun with ASAN and other organizations in 2012. If you would like to be a part of a vigil on March 1st, please go to this site for official vigils. However, the Women's, Gender & Equity Center is honoring victims of filicide on February 26th, instead of March 1st.

This event is open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy.

Please note: UMBC is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive environment for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors. If you have difficulties accessing any of the materials on our site or any of our events or discussions, please contact us so that we can provide an alternative format and/or remedy any accessibility challenges.
