In Honor of UMBC's Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Location

On Campus : Commons Mainstreet & The RAC

Date & Time

April 6, 2016, 10:00 am4:00 pm

Description

Students, faculty, and staff have made t-shirts describing their experience with relationship violence and sexual assault. On Wednesday, April 6th these t-shirts will be hung shoulder-to-shoulder on a clothesline for public viewing, as if the survivors are there themselves, telling us their stories.

The Clothesline Project gives voice to the experiences of survivors, victims, family, and friends who have been affected by violence. All are encouraged to attend and participate.

The Women's Center will also be holding a "Supporting Survivors of Sexual Assault: Cultivating a Survivor-Responsive Campus Workshop" for faculty following the Clothesline Project from 4-5pm in the Women's Center.

UMBC community members impacted by sexual violence are encouraged to make a t-shirt for the display prior to April 6th.
Supplies will be available in the Women's Center on the following dates:
  • Monday, April 4th from 10am-4pm
  • Tuesday, April 5th from 10am-4pm
  • Wednesday, April 6th from 10am-4pm
  • Thursday, April 7th from 10am-4pm

T-shirts made on or after April 6th will be shown at a smaller Clothesline Project display at Take Back the Night on April 14th.

UMBC community members interested in volunteering for this event are encouraged to email the Women's Center at womens.center@umbc.edu. Setting up the project takes lots of hands so volunteers are greatly appreciated!
