Description
Join the Women's Center on International Women's Day to take a closer look at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and celebrate the achievements of women through a Women's Center take-over of UMBC's Instagram!
The year 2018 marks 70 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted by the United Nations, and we'll be using International Women's Day to explore these rights more in depth. In what ways are these rights supporting gender equity and the rights of women? Where is progress still needed? What will you do to make a difference for women at UMBC, in your communities, and globally? We'll explore this and more at our interactive tableing event on March 8th!
Be sure to follow the Women's Center (womencenterumbc) and UMBC (@umbclife) on Instagram to follow along throughout the day!
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
