Description
We are taught that bullying is detrimental to a person’s well-being and can have lasting negative effects. We condemn bullying behaviors from others, and we stand up for those who are being bullied. However, you don’t have to look far to witness bullying, especially since sometimes your biggest bully may be.... you. If we know the negative effects of bullying, then why are we susceptible to bullying ourselves? Why may we participate in talking-down to ourselves? When we look in the mirror, do we engage in destructive negative self-talk?
This discussion for UMBC adult learners (that will center the experience of women and non-binary adult learners) will approach these questions by sharing strategies to empower and inspire a positive self-image. Through an interactive session and group discussions, participants will have the opportunity to engage with this topic by sharing personal experiences and brainstorming strategies to learn more deeply about the ways we can best practice self-care and build self-esteem.
